Aoko Nakamori is a character in the manga franchise Magic Kaito, as well as the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan .

Background Edit

Aoko has been Kaito's best friend ever since they were young children, much like Ran and Shinichi in Detective Conan. Aoko and Kaito met at the clock tower where she was waiting for her father, who was late. Kaito, to cheer her up, did a simple magic trick and gave her a blue rose. This allowed Aoko to smile and laugh, which may have blossomed into their friendship. Because this was the place the two friends met, so it is a very special place to the two, going as far as Kaito declaring a heist to steal it and Aoko being greatly upset at Kaito Kid. Her father, Ginzo Nakamori, is the leader in the police division to catch Kid and Aoko oftens to go cheer for her father since she wants her father to put Kid behind bars. Aoko currently attends Ekoda High School as a second-year student in class 2-B along with Kaito, Keiko, Akako, and Hakuba. Aoko dislikes the Kaitou Kid for making a mockery of her father, but is unaware that Kid is actually her best friend in disguise.

Personality Edit

Aoko has a tendency to refer to herself in the third-person. Aoko is usually calm but her temper can be riled up very easily, particularly when Kaito does something perverted such as trying to peek at her underwear. It is hinted the two like each other, despite bickering, teasing, and Aoko swinging a mop at him. Aoko does want her best friend to look cool once and a while, she said when Keiko asked her why she didn't partner with Kaito for a skiing competition. She admires her classmate Akako for her beauty. Aoko can eat a lot of desserts, as shown when Kaito brought her to an all-you-can-eat tour to observe the place for his heist. She is strongly against Kaito Kid and encourages her father to beat him. She has a mischievous side, shown when she teases Kaito about his fear of fishes.

Relationships analysis Edit

Similar to Shinichi and Ran, Kaito and Aoko are childhood

friends who met each other at a young age. Personality wise, they seem to behave similarly to Heiji and Kazuha: great friends who tend to argue

with each other. Despite Kaito's constant teasing of Aoko and Aoko chasing after Kaito for doing perverted things like flipping up her skirt there are moments in Magic Kaito that show that they care greatly for one another.Whenever Kaito has to transform into "Kid" he usually knocks out Aoko so she doesn't know that he's "Kid", and so that she doesn't get in harms way during one of his heists if they are together. One of the fan speculations of why Kaito hasn't confessed his feelings for Aoko yet is because he's still "Kid" and he doesn't want to put her in harms way of the organization that killed his father if they ever caught wind that she's important to him, similar to Shinichi's Problem when it comes to Ran. 'Kaito has almost kissed Aoko before in the Magic Kaito Chapter, "The Phantom Theif Lady Part 2" when he escaped a simular situation that had made his mother and father start dating when his mother was still a thief, but since she was sleeping at the time he said he "Would hold off for now" meaning that he does wish to kiss her but not when he's still "Kid."

Prior to the heist in Volume 3, Chapter 3, Hakuba seems to flirt with Aoko after Kaito turns down Aoko's offer to go to the Prince Prince concert. Hakuba and Kaito then make a bet that if Hakuba manages to catch Kid then Hakuba will go to the concert with Aoko, and if he fails to capture the thief, Kaito will go instead. When interviewed before the heist, Hakuba notes "Tonight's battle has a special meaning to me". Although initially excited to have Hakuba want to go to the concert with her, Aoko during the actual heist seems to want Hakuba to fail so that she can go to the concert with Kaito instead. This relationship has not been touched upon much since then because of Hakuba's limited appearances in Magic Kaito and Detective Conan.

Plot overviewEdit

Aoko has been friends with Kaito Kuroba since they were both small children. However, they frequently bicker and fight; she seems to be the target of many of Kaito's pranks, to which she retaliates by attempting to bludgeon him with whatever she can get her hands on (often a mop).

Aoko hates the Kaitou Kid for humiliating her father, Ginzo Nakamori. This is partly why Kaito has to go to such lengths to keep his identity hidden from her. However, Kaito has come under suspicion of being the Kaitou Kid several times. In one instance, Aoko went to great lengths to prove Kaito innocent: she asked him out on the day the heist was supposed to take place, and then during the actual time of the heist she handcuffed Kaito to her. Kaito, however, was able to escape and use a dummy to fool Aoko into thinking that he had been with her the entire time.

Aoko frequently attends Kaitou Kid heists, similar to how Ran Mouri attends many of her father's mystery cases. Kaito has not had to prove his 'innocence' to her recently, which suggests that she now 'trusts' him.

Name originEdit

The name "Aoko" means "blue child" in Japanese. This contrasts with her classmate Akako Koizumi's name, which means "red child".
